On August 4, 1990, two unsuspecting hikers photographed an unusual object floating in the sky. What they didn’t realize was that the chase of this image would consume the thoughts and lives of UFO hunters and conspiracy theorists for more than three decades.
For 32 years, the image known as the “Calvine photo” was hidden from public view. The photo is now getting the attention it deserves, thanks to British journalist David Clarke.
When the two hikers, who were working as cooks at the time, presented the images to Scotland’s Daily Record newspaper, instead of publishing them, they turned them over to the British Defence Ministry. They’ve kept it a secret ever since.
Clarke was eventually able to locate the photograph thanks to the assistance of RAF officer Craig Lindsay, who had kept a duplicate of the original photograph and had waited all these years for someone to ask him about it.
The famous image, which is now accessible to the public, displays a weird diamond-shaped object in the sky, with a fighter jet not far behind it.
According to the hikers’ testimonies to Mr Lindsay, they were out for a stroll near the hills in Calvine when they noticed an enormous, diamond-shaped flying object gliding silently in the sky.
One of the hikers stated, “We saw something in the sky that startled us.” We raced into some woods to keep our heads down, and we heard this aircraft fly down the valley, then return two minutes later and begin circling the thing. That’s when we took the pictures.
