Life can occasionally surprise you with a blessing disguised as a curse! Esther the pig was adopted by Steve Jenkins and Derek Walter in Canada, who mistook her for a pygmy piglet. Two years and 667 pounds later, their “little piglet” turned out to be a full-size commercial pig, but Esther’s love and companionship had already altered their lives for the better.
When they learned how clever and kind Esther was (pigs are as intellectual as dogs and are widely regarded as cleaner animals), they couldn’t bear the thought of eating other pigs who were just as intelligent and nice, so they became vegans. They were so moved by their experiences with Esther that they decided to devote their lives to the construction of an animal sanctuary.

Esther weighed only 3 pounds when Steve and Derek adopted her.

This small pig weighs 670 pounds after two years!

Regardless, the couple opted to keep her…

… and it was the finest decision I’d ever made!

Esther gets along well with her flatmates.

They’re having fun together here.

Steve and Derek quit eating meat after witnessing how kind and intelligent pigs could become.

The two fathers became vegans and chose to devote their lives to the establishment of an animal refuge.

To get started, they raised $440,225 on Indiegogo!

Their narrative is truly lovely and motivating…

…but they say it’s not for everyone to raise a pig.

It may be really exhausting!

Esther requires a great deal of food and attention.

This tiny pig has become a permanent member of the household.

Esther has touched the hearts of her two fathers, and maybe she will touch yours as well!
