“Donnie was a total sweetheart” 💜

In Brisbane, Australia, a Good Samaritan was strolling the streets when they spotted a little bat hanging to the edge of the sidewalk.

They immediately dialled Bat Conservation & Rescue since they were unsure of what to do.

Rescuer Rebecca Appleton told The Dodo, “We were scared he might crawl off somewhere and be hard to detect or in danger.” But he was still doing his best to hang when I got there.

The small bat quickly touched Appleton.

He seemed very dejected, and Appleton remarked, “I couldn’t wait to get him warm and secure.” He let me to grip him pretty easy because he was so frail.

The team at the bat rescue gave the little guy the moniker Donnie Darko and immediately got to work getting him the assistance he required.

A younger bat named Donnie had been struggling since there was a food shortage in the region as a result of increased rains and colder weather.

However, Donnie began to regain his strength and his personality continued to shine with each day at the shelter.

Donnie was very adorable, said Appleton. “Once he understood they were being hand fed, I had to build him up a faux medication syringe to stop him trying to steal from the others,” the woman said. “The other bats had to get medication every day in a syringe mixed with food.”

A encouraging indicator that Donnie was growing more independent and was soon ready to return to the wild was when he started to shun contact with his rescuers.

Bat Conservation & Rescue emphasised the significance of keeping an eye out for bats in need of assistance in a Facebook post about Donnie.

The conservation organisation asked for support for any bats that were hanging out by themselves throughout the day. Also, if you can, put native plants in your yard to assist with the food scarcity and to provide local wildlife a place to live and eat.

Donnie now has a second opportunity at living in the wild because to the support he got from so many animal lovers, demonstrating that even the smallest action can have a significant impact.
