They had no choice but to stick together …

SGAR director Lisa Reams recently learned that two German shepherds had been abandoned at a public waste site in the Yazoo, Mississippi region. She drove over without a second thought to see if she could assist.

When she arrived, though, she was surprised with a surprise. Not only were there two humans in need, but there were also two puppies.

Reams drove directly to the vet clinic with the entire family of shepherds piled into her car, where both adults — called Luke and Jenny — had positive heartworm tests, which are completely curable.

Fortunately, their babies, Phoenix and Miles, tested negative, and all four puppies have been certified for foster care.

NYC SECOND CHANCE RESCUE

However, finding a foster home has become increasingly difficult. As a result, the entire family is currently on its way to NYC Second Chance Rescue, where there are additional fosters available.

All four canines are still available for foster or adoption as of right now. Staff workers at the shelter are unsure whether any will be fostered together, but they are pleased that the family stayed together at the waste site long enough to have a second chance at life.

“They’re now safe,” Brookes stated. “And they’ll never be released in that manner again.”
