Strange Superstition Involving Pink Dolphins

by Stephen King Leave a Comment

Every now and then, news outlets will feature stories detailing sightings of pink dolphins in the world’s oceans. These marine mammals, while magnificent to be sure, have a special place in the world of animal lore. Owing in part to their unusual appearance, these creatures have gained fame for their purported connections to another mystical sea denizen: the mermaid.

As legend has it, pink dolphins were human at one time. Banished to the water for reasons only they would know, they dwell in the ocean during the day. At nightfall, these anomalies emerge from the depths in human form and make their way toward land.

Once there, they are said to roam local villages in search of children to take with them when they return to their undersea homes. What becomes of those they abduct is a mystery. Perhaps they too transition into lifeforms that exist in the water by day, and on land when the moon lights the night sky.
