In a bizarre and tragic incident, an 82-year-old pensioner lost his life while relieving himself on train tracks in Alwar, Rajasthan, India. Shivdayal Sharma, a retired electrician from the Indian Railways, was struck by a flying cow that had been hit by an express train. The impact launched the unfortunate bovine 100ft into the air, with parts of it tragically landing on Sharma, who was standing 30 meters away. Shockingly, another individual who was standing near the pensioner narrowly escaped being struck by the projectile animal.

The incident occurred in an area where cows frequently wander onto the tracks, despite efforts to prevent such occurrences. Trains passing through this region can reach speeds of up to 100mph, posing a significant risk to both the animals and unsuspecting individuals. Disturbingly, there have been 26,180 reported incidents of cows being hit on the tracks from 2022 to 2023 alone, highlighting the need for enhanced safety regulations along the route.

Following this tragic event, calls for improved safety measures have intensified. The Zonal Railways have implemented various preventive actions to minimize animal fatalities on the tracks. Initiatives such as clearing garbage, removing wild vegetation, and frequent whistling at locations prone to animal crossings have been introduced. Additionally, metal fences have been erected along the length of the tracks to physically prevent cattle from entering the danger zone.

The news of this unfortunate incident quickly spread on social media, with many expressing their concerns about the lack of safety precautions. Suggestions for erecting fences around high-speed train tracks and providing public toilets garnered attention from commenters. Some attempted to find humor amidst the tragedy, urging others to be safe and refrain from urinating on tracks.

While the focus of attention understandably shifted towards the human victim, there were also concerns raised about the welfare of the cow involved in the accident. Sadly, it was confirmed that the cow did not survive the incident, amplifying the sense of loss and tragedy surrounding the event.

In lighter bovine news, an uplifting story emerged from Australia, where farmers discovered a Holstein calf with a unique marking on its body—a smiling face. The adorable calf has been adopted as a family pet, bringing joy to its caretakers in West Gippsland.

As communities reflect on this unfortunate incident, there is a renewed determination to prioritize safety along railway lines. Efforts to prevent animal-related accidents are crucial not only for human lives but also for the welfare of animals who inadvertently find themselves in harm’s way. May this tragic event serve as a reminder of the importance of implementing and adhering to robust safety measures to protect both humans and animals alike.
