“People have been giving so many recommendations to see what Ella will like!”
Ella was adopted by her family when she was 10 years old, and by that time, she had a very clear understanding of her likes and dislikes — and has never been hesitant about sharing them.
“Ella is really feisty and demanding,” Ella’s mother, Emily Kalaygian, told The Dodo. “However, that’s simply because she’s a lady who knows what she wants, which I like! She does, however, have her polite moments. She frequently waits by my door till I am awake. But it doesn’t mean she doesn’t utilize her voice to sing the song of her people when necessary.”
Kalaygian needed some background noise while going about her day about a month after adopting Ella, so she turned on “The Grinch.” Ella was immediately interested, and thus began Ella’s adventure with her passion with cartoons.
“My husband and I began trying to see what she likes/dislikes, and once 2020 arrived and we were confined inside with her and the TV, it just expanded from there,” Kalaygian explained.
Ella now watches cartoons every day. Every morning, she waits at her mother’s bedroom door for her to go and put on the daily selection, and their routine revolves mainly on Ella’s obsession with TV from there.

“In the morning, she normally waits outside my door (or yells if she’s feeling fancy), and I’ll choose a show to watch to see whether she’d like it,” Kalaygian explained. “I can guess what she won’t/will enjoy by now, yet she still surprises me!” She then does her thing (sleep) and I do mine (work). When it gets late, she generally comes back up and we watch another show or watch a movie! We used to watch a lot of movies, but lately we’ve started watching programs because so many people have recommended things for Ella!”
Everyone on the internet has been immensely engaged in Ella’s TV passion since she got her own TikTok, and it’s been so much fun for people to discover what her favorite series and movies are with her and her family.
“Her favorite program right now is ‘Oswald,’ and we’ve been watching the episodes on Paramount+ on a loop,” Kalaygian explained. “Prior to ‘Oswald,’ she was a huge ‘Phineas and Ferb’ fan, but ‘Oswald’ recently knocked them off the pedestal.” And, of course, she’s known for her adoration of Benedict Cumberbatch, which is why she only watches the 2018 Grinch. “I’m sorry, Jim Carrey.”
Ella has known exactly what she wants since the beginning. Most of the time, it means cartoons, which her parents are more than delighted to provide.
