A stray mother dog and her newborn puppy have been given a second chance after they were discovered living in a roadside ditch with little more than a piece of cardboard and a blanket for shelter.
The rescue began after animal control officer Anna Tevez responded to a report of a dog and her puppy hiding beside a busy road. When she arrived, she found the protective mother keeping watch over her only baby in a shallow ditch, dangerously close to passing traffic.
