But this time, a perfectly spherical cloud captured the attention of Twitter users when @pmxpvrtmx (Poppy) shared a photo of it floating above houses in Fujisawa, a city in Kanagawa Prefecture, Japan.
Poppy described her experience, saying, “When I looked out of the car window, I saw a round ball-shaped cloud. I gazed at the cloud for a while, and then I rushed to take the photo. By the time I saw the cloud, it had become an even more spherical shape, so I regret not capturing the moment more quickly.”
Climate experts chimed in, suggesting that this peculiar cloud likely belongs to the category of “roll clouds.” These clouds form under the influence of wind generated by a phenomenon called a “mountain wave,” which occurs when airstreams pass over mountains on a windy day. According to Wikipedia, roll clouds are often formed by the outflow of cold air from sea breezes or cold fronts.
