Mysterious Red Clouds Over the Atlantic Ocean Have Completely Confounded the Internet

Moheimen Tanim, a Redditor, recently posted some intriguing photographs that have sparked quite a stir. The three photographs reveal a weird red glow in the clouds and were captured by a pilot flying over the Atlantic Ocean, according to Tanim. Other redditors quickly commented with a variety of beliefs, ranging from the end of the world to a comparison to this season’s Stranger Things. The most logical hypothesis, however, blames fishing for the red light.

According to one Redditor, the glow was most likely created by red LED lights mounted to fishing vessels in search of saury. The lights attract the fish, which are vacuumed aboard, allowing the fisherman to catch thousands of saury at once.

The approach is frequently employed to catch Pacific saury, especially by Taiwanese, Japanese, and Chinese fishermen. Atlantic saury can be found from the Gulf of Saint Lawrence all the way down to Bermuda, as well as from Iceland to Morocco. Though it’s unknown where in the Atlantic the pilot took these photographs, the red glow could be from the LED lights.

In reality, a similar event occurred in China in May. A port city’s sky turned deep crimson, causing concern until a fishing firm explained that the apocalyptic skies were caused by their fishing boats. LED fishing is appealing to fisherman since the lightweight LEDs require less fuel for their boats. They can also reduce by-catch and the need for nets, which is good for the environment. However, because of the high quantity of fish they attract, overfishing is a worry, which can be harmful to the ecology.

Theories abound on the internet as to why these clouds over the Atlantic turned red.

But most likely, this was due to fishermen using LED lights to attract their catch.
