Photographer Captures An Incredibly Rare Moment When a Jaguar Dives For Food

A photographer captured an extremely rare moment when a jaguar dived underwater to catch its prey.

The stunning predator dived for fish thrown into the water at the Zoo de Bordeaux Pessac in France, teeth bared, claws drawn, and eyes focused.

Another incredible photograph by Herbert van der Beek, 43, shows a jaguar staring straight into the camera with its catch in its teeth.

“What I like about the series of photographs is that even when it’s under water, you can see the enormous strength and agility of this powerful cat,” said Herbert, from Almere, Netherlands, who spent a day at the zoo trying to capture the images.

“With his eyes wide open, the jaguar swims towards his prey, capturing it with his claws and teeth.” A true hunter, both above and below water.

“I photographed a single male jaguar.” The enclosure housed two jaguars, but the female cat was cautious to enter the water. I think this male jaguar’s facial expressions are fantastic.

“When the animals are fed, fish are tossed into the water, and the animals dive in to collect them.” I’d traveled to Bordeaux in the hopes of photographing a jaguar catching his prey under water.

“Because jaguars are difficult to see in the wild, photographing one hunting under water is nearly impossible.” I was curious to see this great predator’s underwater abilities.”

The magnificent cats have long piqued his interest, according to the father of three.

“I’ve traveled to India to capture tigers and to other parts of Africa to see leopards and lions,” said professional photographer Herbert.

“I find the jaguar to be an impressive animal, and I hope to travel to South America one day to capture one in the wild.”

“Photography has always been a passion of mine, and in recent years I have focused more on it.”

“Our world is an enthralling place. “I enjoy capturing striking images of everything around me, but nature and wildlife fascinate me the most.”
