Rylai reflects a welcome shift in public perception of domesticated foxes, since many others like her have been slain for their fur. Despite her domestication, she is not a Siberian fox, which is raised in Russia to be gentler and more dog-like. Rylai was bred by breeders in the United States who wanted to domesticate foxes, and she is several generations distant from her wild cousins.
