Beloved Shelter Dog Is Overjoyed To Walk Down The Red Carpet Into The Arms Of New Mom

“Everyone was in tears, but we were all so happy for him” ❤️️

Not every adopted shelter dog receives a red carpet send-off. But it was the most suitable farewell his friends at Whatcom Humane Society (WHS) could conceive of for Bowie, the shepherd mix who’d spent over a year looking for his forever family.

Bowie became a star among staff members on his first day, immediately winning the hearts of every employee and volunteer who worked at the rescue.

“He was really, really kind,” Whatcom Humane Society development associate Andrea Merrill said.

WHATCOM HUMANE SOCIETY

Shelter employees treated Bowie as if he were their own for about a year and a half. In addition to playing with him at the shelter, volunteers would take him on walks to get him away from the shelter for a while.

Merrill described him as “one of those dogs who simply needs an entire town to invest in him.” “That’s why [the adoptions] keep falling through…”

During that time, Bowie received numerous adoption applications, but none of them were a good match.

Merrill stated, “He obviously needed someone who was prepared to recognize that he’s a great dog who is still learning his manners.”

When a fresh adoption fell through, Bowie would return to the shelter. And, as perplexed as they were as to why no one had successfully adopted him, his humane society pals welcomed him back with open arms.

A local college student saw Bowie’s tale on social media about a year into his time at WHS and began following him.

“She was completely in love with him,” Merrill added, “but it wasn’t the appropriate moment.”

Six months later, the woman finished college and landed her first job. When she returned to WHS and discovered that Bowie was still available, she promptly filed an adoption application.

“It’s very much a case of ‘the right person finding the right dog,'” Merrill said. “And everyone at Whatcom was ecstatic for Bowie to begin this new journey.”

Although red carpet send-offs aren’t common at the humane society, staff members felt it was only suitable for their very own four-legged celebrity. Plus, he had so many friends who wanted to say their final goodbyes to him.

WHS employees pulled out a long red carpet from the kennels to the front door specifically for Bowie. They created special signs for him and formed a circle around the carpet to bid their beloved pal farewell.

“Everyone was in tears,” Merrill recounted, “but we were all so pleased and just so happy for him.” “It was a really nice way for us to say farewell to Bowie.”

Bowie walked the red carpet out of the shelter and right to his permanent home.

Bowie may be seen snuggling up with his mom, who loves him more and more each day, when he isn’t going on walks or paying attention in training sessions.

“She simply adores him,” Merrill explained. “And Bowie is overjoyed.”
