“He looked at us, looked at the audience, and then let her rip.”
More than everything else, Jack enjoyed singing. Throughout his life, the devoted rescue dog had shouted out songs.
But one spectacular encore performance stole the show — and the hearts of the audience.
After years of singing and howling during his father’s Bluegrass band sessions, Jack spotted an opening and seized it.
“I couldn’t find someone to watch him over this short weekend trip, so I simply brought him along,” Jack’s father, Brennan Gilmore, told The Dodo. “His bed was backstage, and I think someone forgot to close the green room door after we were called back for an encore.”
Gilmore stated that his band had only recently begun playing when the hound mix found his shining moment.
“Within a minute, I observed everyone in the audience bringing out their phones to snap photographs,” Gilmore explained. “Then we noticed Jack had made his way out to the stage.” He looked at us, then at the audience, and then he let her have it.”
Singing has always been in the 12-year-blood, old’s but it’s her love with Gilmore that has endured long after the faithful dog died. And Gilmore will never forget the 2016 concert when Jack entered the stage.
“He was highly expressive,” Gilmore remarked, “he would sing quietly as well as growl.” “In the song, his soul is very much alive.”

Gilmore is now paying particular tribute to the late Jack, who died of cancer in 2020.
“He was the best buddy you could have,” Gilmore added. “I have a guitar with his ashes inside and an etching of him on the headstock, so he’s constantly singing when we play.”
“We were each other’s best friend and support system,” Gilmore explained. “Over the course of our relationship, I grew to consider Jack’s soul as inextricably linked to mine.”
