“It’s to the point where anytime I take the milk out of the fridge, Ollie runs up meowing.”
Ollie and Zero were adopted as brothers, but their parents have observed some significant contrasts in their personalities as they’ve grown up.
“Zero is clearly the troublemaker,” the pair’s mother, Callie Samuels, told The Dodo. “He is constantly ready to play, get into mischief, and be loud.” Ollie is a more heavenly child. While Zero gets into mischief, Ollie sits back and watches, his expression innocent. But make no mistake: Ollie can be a bit of an instigator as well. Sometimes I think that two are working in tandem to make my day as crazy as possible.”
Except when it comes to freshness seals, Ollie’s disposition is much calmer than Zero’s.
Samuels casually tossed a freshness seal off a new carton of milk to Ollie one day. She figured he’d enjoy bouncing it about for a while, but she had no idea she was about to embark on a lifetime infatuation.
“It was love at first sight,” stated Samuels. “Ollie batted it across the floor with his mouth and has been playing with it ever since.” It’s gotten to the point where whenever I take the milk out of the fridge, Ollie hurries up meowing, and I have to break the news to him that he won’t be getting a new freshness seal every time.”
While Ollie enjoys receiving new freshness seals, he also saves all of the old ones. He never throws away a freshness seal and enjoys collecting them and preserving them in unusual places.
“I’m going to find freshness seals all over the place now,” Samuels said. “You name it: under sofa cushions, on the bed, in my shoes.” It’s as though he keeps them around the home in case he has the need to play with one at any time.”
While Ollie is obsessively obsessed with freshness seals, Zero has never understood the fascination. He enjoys getting into mischief as much as the next cat — possibly more — but freshness seals aren’t his thing, and witnessing Ollie’s infatuation grow has just added to his uncertainty.
“When Ollie is messing with the freshness seal, Zero usually simply sits back and watches,” Samuels explained. “If Zero even glances at Ollie when he’s playing with his freshness seal, he’ll growl and take up the freshness seal in his mouth to protect it.”
Even though Zero doesn’t understand, he doesn’t condemn Ollie for his infatuation. One enjoys freshness sealing, while the other enjoys wrecking havoc across the house. They accept their differences and love one other unconditionally.
