Dog who lost an eye after being pelted with rocks now looking for a home

It’s heartbreaking what some animals go through in life. So many dogs suffer severe cruelty and neglect at the hands of humans and deserve a second chance.

Like one dog named Clementine, who lost an eye after being pelted with rocks — but now she’s in good hands and looking for a forever home.

Clementine, a shepherd mix, was rescued by Kabul Small Animal Rescue in August 2021. She previously lived on the streets of Afghanistan, she suffered cruelty that left her permanently scarred. She was found with a ruptured eyeball, reportedly from being pelted with rocks.

KSAR surgically removed her eye, which they had to do by flashlight and with minimal equipment after their clinic was looted. Clementine also lost half an ear during her rough time on the streets.

Despite everything she went through, the rescue said that she healed quickly and her “sweet side shone through.”

“Despite her past, she has so much love to give and just needs someone to show her the kindness she deserves,” KSAR wrote on social media.

“Clementine is shy at first, but with a little patience and a lot of love, she blossoms into a loyal and affectionate companion. Her resilience is truly inspiring, and she has a calm demeanor that will melt your heart.”

Clementine was part of a group of dogs transferred across the world to Passion for Pets Rescue in Maine. According to Newsweek, she is one of only 3 from that group who has yet to find a forever home.

Given her traumatic past, Clementine is understandably wary around most humans, so she needs a specific kind of family who will be patient and take the time to earn her trust.

“Due to being a street dog, she exhibits resource guarding tendencies and is selective with other dogs,” Passion for Pets wrote on Facebook last month. “She does not care for other female dogs and should not be in a house with small animals,” they added, noting that she would do best in a “calm household” with a “secure area to explore.”

After everything she’s been through in life, Clementine deserves nothing less than the best home possible. “Clementine is truly a sweet dog that would make a kind and patient person very happy,” the rescue wrote. “She really loves her people and really wants to be loved as well.”

Clementine’s story is heartbreaking, but it’s also one of resilience and hope. Despite losing an eye at the hands of cruel humans, she is healing and learning to trust again, and just wants a home with someone who will love her as she is.
